Zalmay Khalilzad: U.S. Must Curb China’s Mineral Expansionism in Central Asia

Kabul – Zalmay Khalilzad, former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan, has warned that China’s aggressive push to dominate Central Asia’s rich mineral resources is accelerating. He stated that Beijing is taking assertive steps to control the region’s vast deposits.

Weezharoz – In a statement, Khalilzad wrote: “We must contain China’s mineral expansionism.

Several countries in the broader region particularly Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan are eager to make mineral deals with the Trump Administration.”

He stressed the urgency of U.S. engagement: “It is imperative that we swiftly develop plans to explore opportunities in these countries and potentially across the entire region.”

Khalilzad warned that American inaction would only serve China’s interests, filling a strategic void.

He addressed key U.S. institutions, including the President, State Department, Department of Defense, and Department of the Interior.

He concluded that failure to act promptly could have serious strategic consequences for U.S. interests in the region.
