Weather Warning for 10 Provinces of Afghanistan: Heavy Snow, Flash Floods, and 70 km/h Winds Expected

The Meteorological Department of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Transport of Afghanistan has issued an official warning regarding the possibility of heavy rainfall, snowfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, and flash floods in 10 provinces of the country starting from the 17th of Hamal, 1404.

Weezharoz-Kabul –The affected provinces include: Badakhshan, Takhar, Kunduz, Baghlan, Samangan, Balkh, Sar-e-Pol, Bamiyan, Jozjan, and Faryab.

Rainfall Amounts: Between 15 to 25 millimeters across various areas.

Snowfall:10 to 20 centimeters, particularly in elevated regions.

Strong Winds:Winds will reach speeds of 50 to 70 km/h in the northern, western, central, and southeastern provinces, including sensitive areas like Salang.

Details of Forecast and Risks:

1.Flash Floods: Due to the heavy rainfall, sudden flash floods are likely in low-lying areas, which could cause infrastructure damage and block roads.

2.Traffic Disruptions:Similar heavy snowfalls in recent months have resulted in the closure of major highways and disrupted traffic.
3.Lightning Risk:The combination of rainfall and lightning could damage power lines and increase risks to local communities.

Critical Areas and Recommendations:

Elevated Regions:Residents of Badakhshan, Bamiyan, and Salang should be prepared for snow accumulation of up to 20 centimeters and reduced visibility due to blizzards.

Flood-Prone Areas:Residents of Jozjan, Faryab, and Balkh should avoid approaching streams and rivers.

This warning comes after heavy rainfall in the past three months has led to the deaths of dozens of people and the destruction of thousands of homes.

Meteorologists believe that climate change and unusual weather patterns are increasing the likelihood of such events recurring.
