Washington Beats the Drum of Pressure: Firm U.S. “No” to Iran’s Uranium Enrichment in Any Deal

Washington-The U.S. State Department reaffirmed early Wednesday its continued commitment to the "maximum pressure" campaign against Iran, stating that under no agreement will Tehran be allowed to enrich uranium. This stance echoes a hardline policy initiated under former President Donald Trump and still in effect today.

Weezharoz-Citing Al Jazeera, the State Department emphasized that “the maximum pressure campaign on Iran continues,” reiterating Washington’s opposition to Iran’s nuclear activities especially uranium enrichment regardless of future agreements.

On Tuesday, Donald Trump also declared that any future deal with Iran must prohibit uranium enrichment entirely.

The “maximum pressure” strategy was first launched in 2018 after the U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the JCPOA.

The campaign aimed to impose crippling economic, political, and diplomatic pressure on Iran to force stricter limits on its nuclear and regional activities.

Despite a change in U.S. administration, elements of this approach appear to persist.

The clear U.S. opposition to any uranium enrichment has been a major sticking point in stalled negotiations over reviving the nuclear deal.

Following Washington’s renewed hardline position, sources close to the talks suggest that prospects for a new round of negotiations have further diminished casting a darker shadow over the already fragile path of diplomacy.
