UN Special Envoy for Yemen Meets with Iranian Foreign Minister

Weezha Roz– Hans Grundberg, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, met with Seyed Abbas Araghchi Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, during his visit to Tehran.
In the meeting, Mr. Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s strong support for the role and efforts of the United Nations in improving the situation in Yemen.
He highlighted Iran’s commitment to peace and stability in the region, particularly in Yemen, and expressed hope that the UN’s initiatives would lead to a lasting resolution.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying that Mr. Araghchi condemned the repeated airstrikes by the United States, the United Kingdom, and Israel on Yemen’s infrastructure.
He described these attacks as a clear violation of Yemen’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty, and a gross breach of international law and the UN Charter.
Mr. Araghchi also stated that the airstrikes by the U.S. and the U.K., which are essentially aimed at supporting the Israeli regime’s actions in Gaza, constitute an unprecedented threat to peace and security in the region, with repercussions affecting all countries in the region.
The statement further noted that Mr. Grundberg expressed appreciation for Iran’s position and dedication to regional stability and security, particularly in Yemen.
Additionally, Mr. Grundberg provided a report on his recent visit to Sana’a, outlining the actions and efforts of the United Nations to promote peace and calm in Yemen.
He stressed the importance of continued consultations and dialogue with Iran to support the UN’s peacebuilding efforts in the region.
