Trump’s Controversial Offer to Canada: Join the U.S. in Exchange for a Free Missile Defense System

Washington-Former U.S. President Donald Trump stirred controversy once again after posting on his social media platform, Truth Social, suggesting that if Canada joins the United States as its 51st state, it would receive the advanced “Golden Dome II” missile defense system for free.

Weezharoz-“If Canada wants to become the 51st state of the United States, we will provide the Golden Dome II system free of charge,” Trump stated. “But if it wishes to remain independent, it will need to pay 61 billion to join the system.”

This statement comes amid Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s recent remarks that his government is considering a175 billion investment in defense, while also reaffirming that Canada has no intention of joining the U.S.

Trump unveiled the Golden Dome II project recently an ambitious missile defense system that includes space-based tracking satellites and interceptors capable of destroying ballistic missiles.

He claims the project, estimated to cost $175 billion, would be completed by the end of his second term if reelected.

While Trump alleged that Canada is interested in the project, the Canadian government has not issued any official statement on the matter.

The proposal has drawn widespread reaction from international media, with many seeing it as emblematic of Trump’s expansionist and unrealistic views toward America’s neighbors.
