Trump’s Controversial Claim and the Revelation of Secret Negotiations with Putin

Weezha Roz-Kabul–Donald Trump, the President of the United States, in a divisive interview with Fox News, called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “insignificant” and a “dictator,” claiming that he had secretly negotiated with Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine without informing Kyiv or Europe.
Trump, on Wednesday, sharply criticized Zelensky, stating, “Zelensky has been dragging negotiations into a deadlock for three years. He’s not important enough to be part of the peace talks!” He warned, “If we don’t act quickly, we will lose Ukraine.”
He also revealed that in the last week of February, he had discussed a “secret peace plan” with Vladimir Putin, which includes “guaranteeing Russia’s security.”
He added, “The Europeans don’t even know what’s going on! This stupid war needs to end.”
Background:
Trump has consistently claimed that if he were to return to the White House, he would end the war in Ukraine “within 24 hours.”
He previously called military aid to Kyiv “a waste of American taxpayers’ money” and announced a reduction in support for NATO.
Zelensky’s office described these remarks as “dangerous irresponsibility” and an “insult to the victims of Ukraine.”
The White House considered Trump’s secret negotiations with Putin as a “violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty” and a “threat to Europe’s security.”
Experts have warned that such positions could strengthen Russian propaganda and weaken Western allies.
Analysis:
Trump’s statements, made on the eve of the Republican National Convention, appear to be an attempt to attract anti-war supporters and showcase his bargaining power with the Kremlin.
However, a peace proposal without Ukraine’s participation could escalate tensions with the European Union.
