Trump Optimistic About Putin Accepting 30-Day Ceasefire; Kyiv Endorses U.S. Proposal
On Wednesday, March 22, during a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Ireland at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed hope that Russian President Vladimir Putin would agree to the proposed 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. This proposal, which has already been accepted by Kyiv, could represent an unprecedented step in reducing the over two-year-long tensions of the war.

Weezha Roz-Kabul–In response to reporters’ questions, Trump stated, “I hope the President of Russia will accept this ceasefire proposal. We are sending a delegation to Moscow to help bring an end to the conflict and save civilian lives.”
He continued, “Kyiv has shown the necessary cooperation, and this historic opportunity should not be missed.”
Previously, the government of Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, had expressed preliminary support for the 30-day ceasefire, under the condition that Russia halts its attacks on critical infrastructure.
However, analysts believe that the implementation of this plan would require specific security guarantees and international monitoring.
This is the first time Washington has directly proposed a ceasefire after the escalation of fighting in eastern Ukraine and Russia’s recent attack on the city of Kharkiv.
Earlier efforts by the United Nations and the European Union to establish temporary peace had failed due to disagreements over borders and troop withdrawals.
A NATO spokesperson, in a statement, welcomed “any peace initiative,” but emphasized the necessity for Russia to adhere to previous commitments. Meanwhile, the Kremlin has yet to officially respond to the U.S. proposal.
According to the White House, a U.S. delegation, consisting of senior diplomats and security experts, will travel to Moscow today.
Political observers suggest that the success of this mission hinges on a significant reduction in Russian attacks within the next 24 hours.
