Temporary Closure of Salang Highway to Heavy Trucks After Eid al-Adha
Kabul-The Ministry of Public Works of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has announced that, in order to ensure smoother implementation of the ongoing Salang Highway reconstruction project, the highway will be temporarily closed to all trailer trucks starting June 20, 2025 (20 Jawza 1404), until the completion of the current year's work plan.

Weezharoz-According to the ministry’s statement, reconstruction efforts on the remaining sections of this strategic route are already underway, and the decision aims to accelerate progress and ensure the safety of both passengers and vehicles.
To facilitate traffic flow, the ministry is working on the main lane, while the secondary lane will remain open at night for small cargo vehicles (Landis), alternating directions north to south one night, and south to north the next.
Passenger vehicles, including buses such as 303, 404, and 580 models, can travel both ways 24/7 using the alternate route.
The Ministry of Public Works has reiterated its full commitment to completing the project on time and called on all citizens, traders, and drivers to exercise patience and cooperate in the successful execution of this national initiative.
