Strong Response from Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry to UNAMA’s Remarks on Qisas Execution

Kabul – Following recent comments by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) regarding the implementation of qisas (retributive justice) sentences in the provinces of Badghis, Nimruz, and Farah, the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan issued a strong statement denouncing UNAMA’s remarks as “irresponsible” and “based on ignorance of Islamic rulings.”

Weezharoz– The statement emphasized that the qisas verdicts were issued and executed through a comprehensive judicial process, including three levels of court: primary, appellate, and final review, and after full investigation and due legal rights granted to the accused.

UNAMA had stated that the implementation of qisas was incompatible with the right to life and called for the suspension and abolition of such sentences—an appeal that was met with sharp rejection by the Islamic Emirate.

In its response, the Foreign Ministry asserted that qisas is an undeniable component of Islamic Sharia, validated not only through religious texts but also through human experience as an effective tool for ensuring justice and social order.

The ministry declared that enforcing qisas is a religious obligation of the Islamic government of Afghanistan and insisted that no organization has the authority to criticize Sharia rulings.

In conclusion, the ministry warned that any affront to Islamic rulings is incompatible with UNAMA’s mission and unacceptable, urging the organization to avoid such positions in the future.

Analysts view this response as a reflection of the Islamic Emirate’s sensitivity to international interference in its domestic judicial and religious affairs, potentially signaling the start of renewed tensions between international bodies and Afghanistan’s current government.
