Significant Increase in Wheat Production in Khost: A Key Step Toward Afghanistan’s Domestic Flour Security
Khost-The Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock of Khost province has announced a notable increase in wheat production this year, with projections indicating more than 50,000 metric tons of wheat to be harvested from local farmlands.

Weezharoz-According to official data, around 18,595 hectares of land in Khost have been cultivated with wheat, expected to yield approximately 50,698 metric tons a significant rise compared to previous years.
This achievement comes as a result of the distribution of improved wheat seeds and chemical fertilizers to 19,200 farmers, supported by partner organizations and coordinated by the agriculture department.
Local officials say the initiative aims to boost agricultural self-sufficiency, reduce dependency on imported flour, and empower local farmers in Khost.
This development comes amid ongoing food security challenges in Afghanistan, worsened in recent years by drought and heavy reliance on wheat and flour imports from neighboring countries.
The Khost Agriculture Department has pledged to continue its support for farmers to ensure maximum land productivity and strengthen the local economy.
This trend marks a crucial move toward enhancing domestic flour supply, lowering imports, and improving national food security.
