Risk of Thunderstorms, Flash Floods, and Dust Storms in Multiple Afghan Provinces
Kabul-On Sunday, May 18, 2025, Afghanistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) issued an official weather alert warning of potential thunderstorms, strong winds, moderate to heavy rainfall, and flash floods across several provinces.

Weezharoz-According to global meteorological maps, the provinces of Parwan, Bamyan, Maidan Wardak, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kunar, and Nuristan are expected to experience 5 to 15 millimeters of rainfall, accompanied by possible lightning and flash floods.
Additionally, strong winds carrying dust are forecasted across northern, western, southern, eastern, and central regions of the country.
ANDMA has urged residents of these areas to stay away from riverbanks and strictly follow the safety instructions provided by provincial disaster committees.
This alert comes amid increasing climate change impacts, which have led to more frequent and severe natural disasters in the country, including seasonal floods and storms.
The authority stressed that local preparedness and public awareness are key to minimizing casualties and damage from such events.
