New Sanctions on Iran: Washington Targets Ballistic Missile Supply Network

Washington-As part of its ongoing "maximum pressure" policy against the Islamic Republic of Iran’s missile program, the United States announced on Tuesday (April 30, 2025) that it has sanctioned six entities and six individuals based in Iran and China for their involvement in supplying materials used in ballistic missile propulsion systems.

Weezharoz-According to the U.S. State Department, these individuals and companies are part of a network operating under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), responsible for facilitating the transfer of sodium perchlorate and dioctyl sebacate from China to Iran-both of which are key components in ballistic missile fuel.

This latest action is described as part of Washington’s broader strategy to counter Iran’s missile development efforts and to weaken the operational capabilities of the IRGC.

The State Department stated that the sanctions were imposed in accordance with *Presidential National Security Memorandum No. 2, issued in March 2025.

Additionally, the U.S. Department of the Treasury implemented the measures under Executive Order 13382, which targets proliferators of weapons of mass destruction and their supporters.

The Treasury noted that further steps are underway to block all procurement channels for materials and equipment essential to Iran’s missile program.

The U.S. government reaffirmed its commitment to hold accountable anyone involved in facilitating, supporting, or enabling Iran’s ballistic missile efforts.

These sanctions come amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the West over Tehran’s missile and nuclear activities, with diplomatic efforts to revive the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) still stalled.

Will these pressures halt Iran’s missile ambitions or further inflame regional tensions? Only time will tell.
