Meeting with the Deputy High Commissioner of the United Nations for Refugees

Weezha Roz-The Deputy High Commissioner of the United Nations for Refugees, Mr. Raouf Mazou, along with his delegation, met with the Acting Minister of Refugee Affairs, Mawlavi Abdul Kabir.

According to the Ministry of Refugee Affairs, in this meeting, discussions were held regarding the situation of Afghan refugees, permanent solutions for migration, providing facilities to refugee camps, trilateral and quadrilateral talks with Pakistan and Iran to address the current issues of Afghan refugees, and joint cooperation in these areas.

Mr. Mazou expressed his condolences to the Minister for the martyrdom of Shaheed Khalil-ur-Rahman Haqqani and wished him success in his new position.

He mentioned that although the global financial crisis has had a negative impact on their work, efforts are ongoing to secure the necessary budget to address the refugee issues.

Mr. Mazou also highlighted the forced expulsion of Afghan refugees from Pakistan and Iran as a violation of international principles and a matter of concern. He concluded by stating that the UN agencies for refugees are ready to assist in building refugee camps.

The Minister emphasized the priority of the return of refugees to the country, but stated that time and opportunity should be taken into account, and that refugees should return voluntarily in accordance with international principles.

Mawlavi Abdul Kabir stated that the Ministry of Refugee Affairs will make efforts to provide necessary facilities for the returning refugees and internally displaced families.

In the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of further coordination and joint cooperation.
