Meeting of the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General with the Governor of Bamyan Province
Bamyan-On the afternoon of Monday, Ms. Georgette Gagnon٫ Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Afghanistan, met with Mawlawi Abdullah Sarhadi, the Governor of Bamyan Province, during her official visit to the province.

Weezharoz-At the start of the meeting, Ms. Gagnon expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation of the Bamyan provincial administration in the areas of security and development, emphasizing that the security in Bamyan is the result of the local government’s consistent efforts.
She highlighted the role of the UNAMA regional office in Bamyan, particularly in supporting infrastructure projects and addiction treatment programs.
She assured that UNAMA would maintain its cooperation in these key sectors.
In response, Governor Sarhadi expressed his gratitude for the visit and the attention of the UN delegation, stating that the leadership of the local government has always worked to ensure a secure and enabling environment for the implementation of UN and other international projects.
He also referred to the province’s efforts in the fight against narcotics and administrative corruption, stating: “The cultivation, sale, use, and trafficking of drugs have been completely eradicated in Bamyan, and corruption in government institutions has been reduced to zero.”
Governor Sarhadi emphasized unity among ethnicities, religions, and linguistic groups in Bamyan, noting that the people live together in harmony and brotherhood, and that no ethnic or sectarian discrimination exists in the provincial administration.
In conclusion, Ms. Gagnon welcomed the local government’s actions in combating corruption and narcotics and reaffirmed UNAMA’s commitment to supporting development and humanitarian programs in Bamyan, addressing local challenges through UN agencies and global donor partners.
