Iranian Athletes and Coach Arrested in South Korea on Sexual Assault Charges

South Korea- According to a report by Iran's Tasnim News Agency, quoting Korea Daily, South Korean police have arrested three Iranian athletes and one coach participating in the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships on charges of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old local woman.

Weezharoz-Authorities stated that on Friday, May 31 (Jowza 10), a report was filed about an alleged assault at a hotel in the city of Gumi. Police responded promptly and detained two athletes, both approximately 30 years old, along with a coach at the scene.

Reports claim that the individuals met the young woman at a nearby bar close to the athletes’ village and later brought her to their hotel, where the alleged assault took place.

South Korean authorities have launched a formal investigation. So far, there has been no official response from Iranian officials regarding the incident.

Official sources have refrained from making definitive statements until the investigation concludes.

If the allegations are confirmed, the case could have serious diplomatic and sporting consequences for Iran.
