Iran Transfers 199 Afghan Prisoners to the Islamic Emirate: A Step Toward Strengthening Bilateral Judicial Cooperation

Nimroz,Afghanistan–On Friday, April 18, 2025, Iranian authorities handed over 199 Afghan prisoners to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan through the Silk Bridge crossing in Nimroz province.
These individuals had been incarcerated in Iran for various offenses.
Mohammad Yousuf Mistary, Director General of Prisons, stated that this transfer is part of a broader agreement between Iran and Afghanistan to repatriate a total of 484 Afghan inmates.
Previously, 211 prisoners were returned, and the remaining individuals are expected to be transferred in subsequent phases.
Upon arrival, the repatriated prisoners will be relocated to their respective provinces to serve the remainder of their sentences within Afghanistan’s correctional facilities.
The Nimroz provincial administration has assured that the prisoners will receive necessary services, including food, healthcare, and other essential support during this process.
In a reciprocal gesture, the Islamic Emirate also returned two Iranian detainees to Iranian authorities, highlighting a mutual commitment to enhancing judicial cooperation.
This development aligns with the 2006 bilateral agreement on prisoner transfers and reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen legal and humanitarian collaboration between the two nations.
