Inauguration of Shamadam Barikot Reinforcement Project in Kunar Province

Kunar-The Shamadam Barikot reinforcement project in Nari District of Kunar Province has officially been inaugurated after its successful completion at a cost of AFN 4,911,313, funded by Afghanistan’s Ministry of Water and Energy.

Weezharoz-The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mullah Dost Mohammad Hanafi, Head of Kunar’s Water and Energy Department, along with several other local officials.

The project, which spans 190 meters in length, was completed within three months under the supervision of the provincial water and energy department. It was executed efficiently and in accordance with technical standards.

The initiative aims to strengthen flood protection infrastructure and prevent riverbank erosion in the region, contributing to long-term environmental and economic stability.

According to officials, as part of the Ministry’s broader reinforcement program, one such project has been implemented in each of the 14 districts of Kunar, with a total budget of approximately AFN 45 million.

While some of these projects have already been inaugurated, others are expected to be completed and operational in the near future.

These developments not only improve hydrological infrastructure, but also play a vital role in mitigating natural disaster risks, protecting agricultural lands, and enhancing local livelihoods.
