Inauguration of a 25.4 Million Energy Infrastructure Project in Kabul
A new substation project at Baghak and a 220 kV power transmission line from Argandi to Baghak, with an investment of25.4 million, was inaugurated in Kabul with the presence of senior officials of the Islamic Emirate. This project is part of the larger 500 kV Turkmenistan-Afghanistan power line project and is expected to largely address the electricity shortage in the capital.

Weezha Roz-Kabul-The project, which has been executed in cooperation with the Ministry of Water and Energy and the private company “Ofi Bahram,” consists of two main parts:
1. The Baghak substation with a capacity of 189 MVA.
2. The 220 kV transmission line connecting Argandi to Baghak.
The main objective is to absorb and distribute electricity imported from the 500 kV Turkmenistan line and improve electricity coverage in Kabul.
Mullah Abdul Latif Mansoor (Acting Minister of Water and Energy):
“This project is a key step in utilizing the Turkmenistan transmission line.
Our ministry has made significant achievements in the two critical sectors of water and energy and will continue its efforts.”
Aminullah Obaid (Governor of Kabul):
“Since the beginning of the Islamic Emirate’s work, major achievements have been made in the fields of development and infrastructure, especially in ensuring electricity for the citizens of Kabul.”
Mohajer Farahi (Deputy Minister for Information and Culture):”Just as the Islamic Emirate sacrificed for the freedom of the country, it is now working day and night for the prosperity and progress of Afghanistan.”
Haji Pahlawan (Head of Ofi Bahram Company):”This company is committed to continuing investment in energy projects.
Cooperation with the Ministry of Water and Energy is a successful model of government and private sector partnership.”
With the commissioning of this project, a significant portion of the electricity imported from Turkmenistan will be absorbed, and Kabul’s electricity distribution network will be strengthened.
This move will not only reduce the power shortage but also create an environment conducive to attracting further investments in the energy sector.
Background:
The 500 kV Turkmenistan-Afghanistan power transmission line is a key regional project that allows for the import of 1.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
Completing the related infrastructure, such as the Baghak substation, plays a critical role in fully utilizing this capacity.
