Imran Khan’s Sharp Criticism of General Munir’s Promotion: “He Should Have Called Himself King Instead of Field Marshal”
Peshawar-Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan who is currently imprisoned, reacted sharply to the promotion of Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir, to the rank of Field Marshal. In a sarcastic post on platform X (formerly Twitter), Khan remarked that Munir should have named himself “king” instead, as the country is now being ruled under “jungle law.”

Weezharoz-This statement came after Munir became only the second person in Pakistan’s history to be elevated to Field Marshal.
The decision, approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s cabinet, was attributed to Munir’s role in recent clashes with India, particularly during Operation “Bonyan Mersous.”
However, some analysts consider this promotion to be largely symbolic and have compared it to the elevation of General Ayub Khan in 1959.
Khan had previously criticized the growing military influence in Pakistan’s politics, calling the extension of Munir’s service from three to five years a “murder of democracy” and warning about the weakening of civilian institutions.
The promotion of Munir to Field Marshalthe highest military rank in Pakistan has sparked concerns about increased military dominance in politics and the erosion of democratic norms.
