Historic Talks Between Kabul and Abu Dhabi: Strengthening Afghanistan-UAE Trade and Transit Relations at the Core of Ministerial Negotiations

In a bilateral meeting held today in Kabul between Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, and Saif Mohammed Al Ketbi, the Special Representative of the United Arab Emirates, both sides emphasized enhancing economic cooperation, facilitating trade exchanges, and expanding regional coordination.

Weezharoz-Kabul–During the meeting, Muttaqi described the Afghanistan-UAE relationship as “positive and growing,” expressing hope that the recent agreements made during the UAE representatives’ visit to Kabul would accelerate trade and transit cooperation between the two countries.

He also highlighted the UAE’s crucial role in supporting Afghanistan’s infrastructure and transit projects.

On the other hand, Saif Mohammed Al Ketbi outlined the purpose of his visit to Kabul as a follow-up to agreements reached between the foreign ministers of both countries, calling the Kabul-Abu Dhabi relationship “strategic and impactful for regional stability.

“He further added, “The UAE is committed to supporting Afghanistan’s economic growth and collaborating in the fields of transit, energy, and regional security.”

According to reports, discussions during the meeting covered topics such as increasing bilateral trade volume, reducing customs barriers, utilizing Afghanistan’s transit routes to connect Central Asia to the Persian Gulf, and collaboration on energy projects.

Analysts consider these talks as an important step toward attracting UAE investments in Afghanistan’s mining and transit sectors.
