Historic Launch of the Afghanistan-Iran-Europe Rail Corridor: A Major Leap in International Trade and Economic Growth
With the official activation of the Afghanistan-Iran-Europe rail corridor, Afghanistan's first export shipment was sent yesterday from Herat to Turkey and European countries, in the presence of senior officials. This historic event, carried out with close cooperation from Iran, connects Afghanistan to the international trade route, marking a significant turning point in the country’s economy.

Weezha Roz-Kabul – During the inauguration of the corridor, the Consul General of Afghanistan in Herat and the Governor of Herat province emphasized the importance of strengthening regional cooperation and developing transportation infrastructure.
The first export shipment, which includes Afghanistan’s agricultural and mineral products, crossed through Iran before heading to Turkey and European markets.
Utilizing this rail corridor reduces the time needed to transport goods to Europe by up to 40% and significantly lowers logistics costs.
This new trade route creates fresh opportunities for Afghan exports, promoting domestic production growth and generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
The project symbolizes collaboration among Afghanistan, Iran, and European countries for sustainable development and economic security.
Officials present at the ceremony described the activation of the rail corridor as “a historic step towards Afghanistan’s economic self-reliance.”
Plans to expand rail transportation capacity and extend the corridor to other Central Asian countries are on the agenda.
