High-Level U.S. State Department Talks with Qatari Officials on Afghanistan

Kabul-Marie Bishoping, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Central Asia at the U.S. State Department, held diplomatic meetings in Doha with Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and representatives from several countries to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.

Weezharoz-According to Karen Decker, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires for Afghanistan, who posted on the social platform X (formerly Twitter), key topics discussed during these meetings included counterterrorism efforts, the return of American detainees, managing illegal migration, and combating narcotics.

Decker described Qatar as a “valued friend and close partner of the U.S.” that plays a vital role in promoting regional security, stability, and prosperity.

It is worth noting that Bishoping had previously met with Ismatullah Irgashev, Uzbekistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, to discuss developments in the country.

These meetings are part of ongoing U.S. diplomatic efforts to engage with regional partners on complex issues related to Afghanistan, particularly in the areas of security and stability.
