Enhancing Somalia’s Military Power: Turkey Sends Advanced T-129 ATAK Attack Helicopters to Mogadishu

According to Somali officials, Turkey will soon deliver a shipment of T-129 ATAK attack helicopters to Somalia's armed forces. This significant military move aims to strengthen security cooperation between Ankara and Mogadishu and enhance Somalia's defensive capabilities in the face of security threats.

In recent years, Turkey has played an unprecedented role in rebuilding Somalia’s security structure by establishing military bases and training special forces.

The delivery of the T-129 ATAK is part of a 2023 defense cooperation agreement between the two countries.

These helicopters will likely be used to protect Turkish development projects in Somalia, including the new Mogadishu airport and port.
