Damascus’ Surprising Promise to the West: Syria to Normalize Relations with Israel by End of 2026
Kabul – In a rare and significant development in Middle Eastern diplomacy, Craig Murray, former British ambassador to Uzbekistan, has revealed citing a British diplomatic source that Ahmad al-Sharaa, President of Syria's transitional government, has assured the UK that Damascus will normalize relations with Israel and officially recognize the country by the end of 2026.

Weezha Roz-According to the report, the normalization process will also include an exchange of ambassadors between the two countries.
It is part of a broader deal in which Syria is expected to receive substantial financial support from Western countries and see the lifting of international sanctions.
This potential breakthrough follows the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in December 2024 and the rise of Ahmad al-Sharaa, a former leader of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), once labeled a terrorist organization, who emerged as Syria’s de facto leader.
In recent public statements, al-Sharaa pledged that Syria would no longer serve as a base for hostilities against Israel or any neighboring countries and appealed for international backing for the country’s reconstruction.
Reactions to the revelation have been mixed. Some analysts see it as a signal of a new era of diplomacy and strategic realignment in the Middle East, while others question the true intentions behind the Syrian leadership’s dramatic shift.
Israel has responded cautiously, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and security of its citizens before any normalization steps are taken.
If fulfilled, this commitment could mark one of the most dramatic diplomatic shifts in the region in decades, potentially reshaping alliances and power dynamics throughout the Middle East.
