Crisis Explosion in Manipur: 70 Indian Soldiers Captured and Major Army Arsenal Seized in Chen Hills

Declaration of Autonomy and Escalating Tensions; Kuki Militants Take Strategic Control in the Region Following the declaration of autonomy by separatist Kuki groups in the Indian state of Manipur, intense clashes between Indian security forces and militants have reached a boiling point.

Weezharoz-Delhi-Local sources have reported that in a surprise operation, 70 Indian Army soldiers were captured by the group near the Myanmar border.

Simultaneously, the militants seized the largest weapons depot of the Indian Army in Chen Hills, gaining access to a vast array of heavy weaponry and ammunition.

According to field reports, the Kuki forces, employing asymmetric warfare tactics, surrounded a military convoy in the mountainous region of Manipur and took 70 soldiers as “prisoners of war.”

This marks the first time in recent years that such a large number of Indian troops have been captured in an internal conflict.

The base, known as a hub for distributing advanced weaponry for the Indian Army, fell under complete militant control after hours of intense fighting.

Sources have confirmed that weapons, including rocket launchers, missiles, and vast ammunition supplies, were seized by the attackers.

India’s Ministry of Defence has called the incident a “terrorist attack” and announced immediate rescue operations and a wide-scale military response.

A spokesperson for the group stated, “These actions are a direct response to the brutal human rights abuses by New Delhi and will continue until full autonomy is achieved.”

Security experts warn that the capture of the Chen Hills base significantly shifts the power balance in favor of the militants in the region.

Dr. Rajesh Mishra, a military affairs analyst, states, “Controlling this base not only increases the logistical capability of the groups but also highlights India’s strategic weakness in managing ethnic crises.”

Manipur, a state in northeastern India, has been witnessing ethnic conflict for decades between indigenous groups, including the Kukis, and the central government.

Calls for autonomy and the unequal distribution of resources are cited as primary factors fueling the escalation of tensions.

Given the extensive capture of soldiers and the seizure of strategic weaponry, it is expected that the Indian government will initiate unprecedented military operations.

However, concerns over rising civilian casualties and the potential spread of the crisis to Myanmar and Bangladesh borders are growing.
