Condemnation of Attacks on Civilian Targets in Sudan by Iran

Weezha Roz-Esmail Baghai, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, condemned the killing of civilians and attacks on civilian targets and infrastructure, particularly hospitals and public facilities in Sudan.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman expressed sympathy with the victims of the recent attacks, which resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians, especially in the city of El Fasher, and emphasized the need to respect international humanitarian principles and conventions.
Mr. Baghai called for an immediate halt to the fighting and urged the search for a political solution to the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
Background:
Currently, the situation in Sudan remains critical, with ongoing clashes between the Sudanese army and militia groups led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
Since the conflict between the Sudanese army and militia forces began in April 2023, violence has escalated sharply, and the humanitarian situation in the country has significantly worsened.
The fighting is mainly concentrated in the capital, Khartoum, and other major regions of Sudan, with reports of thousands of people being killed or wounded.
Alongside this, millions of Sudanese have been forced to flee their homes, with many seeking refuge in neighboring countries.
The war has led to the destruction of vital infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, and public facilities, severely limiting access to essential services such as water, food, and medical care.
International organizations, including the United Nations and the Red Cross, are working to assist those in crisis-affected areas, but access to some regions remains difficult due to the continued fighting.
Given the dire humanitarian situation and ongoing conflict, efforts to establish a ceasefire and reach a peace agreement are still underway, though no progress has been made so far.
