Border Clash Between Afghan Border Guards and Pakistani Forces at Torkham Crossing

According to reports from Pakistani media, a heavy clash occurred this morning between Afghan security forces and Pakistani border guards in the Torkham border area.

Weezha Roz-Kabul–The clash, which involved intense gunfire, resulted in civilian casualties, although the exact number of killed and wounded individuals has not yet been confirmed.

Local sources reported that the primary cause of the conflict was a dispute over the construction of a new security post by Afghan border guards near the border.

Pakistan considered this action a violation of its border sovereignty and responded by attacking Afghan positions.

Truck drivers, who had been trapped on both sides of the border for the past 10 days due to the closure of the crossing, moved their vehicles out of the area after the fighting began.

Last week, Pakistan unilaterally closed the Torkham gate to traffic, a decision that sparked widespread protests from Afghan traders.

Afghan traders have reported that each day the Torkham crossing remains closed, they lose about 500,000 dollars.

This crossing is considered one of the main trade routes between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Afghan security sources have unofficially emphasized, “After the Pakistani attack on the border posts, our forces gave a decisive response, and the attackers suffered heavy casualties.Border security will be firmly maintained.”

Pakistani officials have not yet made any official statements about the clash, but local sources in Pakistan claim that Afghan border guards have “escalated provocative actions.”

While Afghan security sources claim that the situation is “under control” after the clash, concerns about escalating tensions and continued disruptions to border trade remain.

It is still unclear whether negotiations between the two sides will result in the reopening of the crossing.
