Ancient Archaeological Site Discovered Near Torkham; Traces of Kushan and Mughal Eras Found in Nangarhar
Nangarhar–The Department of Information and Culture in Nangarhar Province has announced the discovery of a significant historical and archaeological site in the Omari Camp area near the Torkham border crossing. The site contains visible remnants of ancient civilizations, particularly from the Kushan and Mughal periods.

Weezharoz-According to Mawlawi Zabihullah Noorani, head of Nangarhar’s Department of Information and Culture, the site is located within the Omari Camp Service Committee area at an elevation of 597 meters above sea level.
A detailed satellite-based map of the location has been prepared, confirming its high historical value.
Noorani stated that preliminary investigations have revealed traces of ancient structures and artifacts linked to both the Kushan civilization and the Mughal era.
Local residents have also reported the presence of six old wells (kohis) at the lower part of the site.
To the east of the area, a hill has been identified, atop which several towers and rooms are situated.
While some had speculated these structures dated back to the Soviet period, material analysis and expert assessments suggest they also belong to the Mughal period.
Authorities noted that a specialized archaeological team will soon visit the site to conduct a detailed evaluation.
Following this, the site will be officially registered in the Ministry of Information and Culture’s database of historic locations.
