Weezha Roz-The Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan, in collaboration with relevant international organizations, has launched the first round of the 2025 national polio vaccination campaign on Monday, January 27, 2025.
This round of the polio vaccination campaign will take place from January 27 to 29, 2025, in 16 provinces in the central, southern, eastern, western, southeastern, and northeastern regions of the country.
The provinces included in this vaccination campaign are:
– Kabul
– Nangarhar
– Laghman
– Kunar
– Nuristan
– Kandahar
– Helmand
– Zabul
– Urozgan
– Paktia
– Paktika
– Khost
– Ghazni
– Baghlan
– Herat
– Badghis
The Ministry of Public Health has set a target of vaccinating approximately 6 million children under the age of five against the polio virus during this campaign.
In a statement, the Ministry emphasized its commitment to working with its partners to eradicate the wild polio virus in Afghanistan.
The statement quoted the Minister of Public Health as saying, “We are striving and continuing the polio vaccination campaigns and health services to achieve the goal of complete eradication of polio across the country.”
He added, “It is important for religious scholars, tribal elders, parents, and other influential figures in society to support vaccinators so that they can participate in the fight against polio and protect the health of children.”
Polio is a viral disease that is incurable and can only be prevented and eradicated through polio vaccination.
Children who contract the disease are left paralyzed for life or may even die.
The virus is still circulating in the country, and the Ministry of Public Health is fully prepared to fight it.
The Ministry values the participation of all members of society in the battle against polio and stresses that parents can protect their children by vaccinating all children under the age of five, thus halting and eradicating the transmission of the polio virus, which causes the disease.
