A Leap in Power Generation in Afghanistan: From 250 to 900 Megawatts
Kabul-Dr. Abdul Bari Omar, Chief Executive Officer of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), has announced a major milestone in the country’s energy sector, stating that Afghanistan is currently constructing power generation projects with a combined capacity of 900 megawatts a significant jump from the mere 250 megawatts that were inherited over the past six decades.

Weezharoz-Speaking at an official gathering, Dr. Omar described the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects across various provinces as a reflection of a changing vision and a strong will toward energy self-sufficiency in the country.
According to Dr. Omar, major power initiatives were once considered just a “dream” or a “distant aspiration,” but are now being turned into reality thanks to the tireless work of domestic technical and support teams operating around the clock.
He emphasized that self-reliance in electricity will not only meet domestic demand but also create a favorable environment for both local and foreign investment in Afghanistan’s energy sector.
The DABS chief also expressed gratitude for the cooperation of local communities and institutions, citing their support as a key factor in the successful implementation of ongoing projects.
Experts note that expanding domestic power generation will significantly reduce Afghanistan’s dependence on imported electricity from neighboring countries and will contribute to long-term economic stability and sustainable development.
This achievement comes at a time when the country has long struggled with severe energy shortages, which have hindered industrial growth and public welfare in many regions due to insufficient access to reliable electricity.
Could these developments mark a new chapter in Afghanistan’s path toward industrial growth and economic prosperity? The near future may provide the answer.
