A Prisoner of the Islamic Emirate is Exchanged and Released with an American Prisoner

Weezha Roz-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan has announced that, following lengthy and productive negotiations between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the United States, an Afghan prisoner, who was held in the U.S., was exchanged for American nationals and has now been released and returned to Afghanistan.
The Ministry named the released prisoner as Khan Mohammad, who had been sentenced to life imprisonment by U.S. courts and was serving his sentence in California.
According to the statement, Khan Mohammad was captured nearly two decades ago in Nangarhar province.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has described this exchange as a good example of resolving issues through dialogue and has credited Qatar for playing an effective role in facilitating the prisoner exchange.
The Ministry emphasized that the Islamic Emirate views U.S. actions positively if they contribute to normalizing and strengthening relations between the two countries.
The statement did not mention the number of U.S. citizens released in exchange for Khan Mohammad’s freedom.
