CENTCOM Supports Partner Forces in Anti-ISIS Operations in Iraq and Syria
Kabul-Between May 21–27, 2025, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces, in coordination with partner forces in Iraq and Syria, conducted six anti-ISIS (D-ISIS) operations—five in Iraq and one in Syria. These operations resulted in the killing of two ISIS members, the capture of two others including a senior leader, and the seizure of multiple weapons.

Weezharoz-From May 21–22, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), supported by CENTCOM, carried out a D-ISIS operation near Deir ez-Zur, which led to the arrest of one ISIS operative.
During the same period, Iraqi forces, with CENTCOM’s support, conducted operations in Salah al-Din, Kirkuk, and Fallujah.
These missions led to the clearing and destruction of several sites, seizure of light arms and munitions, recovery of materials for further exploitation, and the killing of two ISIS operatives along with the capture of a senior leader.
General Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM Commander, stated, “Operations like these underscore CENTCOM’s commitment, alongside our allies and partners, to the enduring defeat of ISIS in the region.”
These actions come amid rising concerns over ISIS resurgence in Syria and Iraq, especially as the group seeks to exploit security vacuums following the collapse of the Assad regime.
The United States and its international coalition partners, under the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR), remain committed to preventing the return of ISIS and ensuring long-term stability in the region.
