New Drafting Wave in Russia: 160,000 Young Men Registered from April to January
Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed the compulsory conscription of 160,000 citizens aged 18 to 30, with registration starting in April and continuing until January. Under this directive, individuals will undergo basic training and serve for one year in various military centers across Russia.

Weezha Roz-Kabul-Military conscription in Russia is traditionally carried out twice a year (spring and autumn).
During the 2023 autumn draft (October to December), 133,000 individuals were enlisted.
The 27,000 additional soldiers for the spring 2024 draft represents a 20% increase compared to the previous period.
This measure is part of Russia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the military’s manpower.
Analysts attribute the increase in enlistments to recent geopolitical tensions and the necessity to maintain military readiness.
However, there have been criticisms from families regarding the mandatory service and its potential impact on the education and employment prospects of young people.
This large-scale draft coincides with the ongoing war in Ukraine and Russia’s need for replacement forces on the front lines, drawing attention from the international community.
Experts believe the Kremlin is attempting to replenish its military capabilities after significant casualties over the past two years.
